Area competitors shine at Senior Games
Middle Georgians fared well recently in the National Senior Games in Birmingham, Alabama.
More than 10,500 people competed in the world’s largest multisport event for competitors 50 and older, in more than 800 events and 19 medal sports. This was the 30th anniversary of the games.
The state of Georgia finished 12th with 155 medals.
Maconites Nancy Owens, Arthur Caldwell, John Leslie and Bill Bonbrake along with Sue Patterson of Byron and Fred Rogers of Warner Robins had a good event.
The Macon group competed in pickleball and racquetball in age groups ranging from 60 to 79 years of age.
Patterson and Rogers competed in racquetball in the 55-59 age bracket, Rogers taking first in men’s singles 55-59 and the pair winning in 55-59 mixed doubles.
The locals brought home 3 gold medals, 1 silver medal and 3 bronze medals.
