Specialty burgers, prizes and more: What you need to know about Macon Burger Week
Most of Macon’s 2020 events have been canceled, casualties of the COVID-19 pandemic. But while postponed, Macon Burger Week is officially still on for this year.
The third Macon Burger Week, hosted by the Georgia Beef Board and Visit Macon, is slated for Nov. 2-8.
“Macon Burger Week is a chance for residents and visitors to experience great burgers from our local Macon restaurants,” said Valerie Bradley, vice president of marketing at Visit Macon. “People will have the opportunity to try different burgers. Each restaurant… does a great job of creating a burger especially for Macon burger week.”
The list of restaurants that have signed up to participate in the beef-filled week will be announced soon, Bradley said, but they have announced that burgers will be $7 each, which is a $2 increase from last year’s price.
The decision to raise the price was made due to restaurant feedback and the increased prices of food because of the coronavirus pandemic, Bradley said.
“We want to make sure that restaurants will be able to participate, but also making sure that people who get burgers are able to get them at a price point that’s comfortable for them as well,” she said.
Macon Burger Week is requiring restaurants to demonstrate their ability to follow Centers for Disease Control and state guidelines to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, and several restaurants will offer take out options, according to its website.
Restaurants who would like to participate in Macon Burger Week can visit maconburgerweek.com for more details.
Ocmulgee Brewpub is the reigning champion of the 2018 and 2019 competition, and Grey Goose Player’s Club came in second place in the 2019 competition.
Although the main focus of the event is beef, Bradley said they will be reaching out to restaurants who have participated in the past about making dessert options, such as Felicia’s Cake Factory.
A passport will also be available this year, so people can get their passports stamped with each burger they try and turn it in for a chance to win a prize, she said.
“I think people should participate because this is a great chance to support our local restaurants during this time but then also a way for people to enjoy creative food, creative burgers that each of these restaurants come up with,” she said.
