Nutcracker of Middle Georgia keeping things ‘fresh’ by adding new faces this year
Bibb students attending the Title 1 school performance of the Nutcracker of Middle Georgia Wednesday morning might have noticed a familiar face playing Mother Ginger.
Curtis Jones, Bibb County schools superintendent, took the stage as the popular character in Act II of the annual holiday show. He was also scheduled to perform during the evening show Wednesday.
“After saying yes three times, I couldn’t figure out a way to back out,” Jones said.
Jones is one of the special guests performing as Mother Ginger in the show that runs through Dec. 15. Others include WMAZ meteorologist Ben Jones, retired Theatre Macon artistic director Jim Crisp and headmaster at Stratford Logan Bowlds.
“We were looking for ways to keep our Nutcracker fresh for our loyal audience,” said Amy Green, publicity chair for the Nutcracker of Middle Georgia. “These are all very important people in the community and we knew people would like to see their friends on stage.”
This year’s show which is the 35th annual will feature 111 local cast members and six professional dancers, five of which are new.
Tickets can be purchased at The Grand Opera House box office or at www.midganutcracker.com with prices ranging from $12.50 for students and $22.50-$32.50 for adults.
