United Way and Community Foundation announce $190K in grants for coronavirus recovery

The Community Foundation of Central Georgia and United Way of Central Georgia are donating $190,000 to local nonprofits.

The money represents the second round of grants out of the Central Georgia COVID-19 Response & Recovery Fund.

The first grants went out last week to the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank to add part-time staff after a loss of volunteers and increased demand for food, as well as $10,000 for hand sanitizer to various organizations to distribute to the homeless and at-risk people.

This week’s grants will go to 14 organizations in the Middle Georgia area:

  • $9,000 to the Middle Georgia Community Food Bank to support an increase in costs of distribution and increased demand for food.
  • $25,000 to the Salvation Army Bibb County to support increased demand, 1,700 additional weekly meals for 122 people and 100 additional dinners for take-out to people not at the shelter.
  • $25,000 to NewTown Macon to support local nonprofits and small businesses and helping them access federal benefit programs.
  • $15,000 Crisis Line and Safe House to help with cost for hotel rooms for new residents that can’t be brought into the house due to the coronavirus outbreak.
  • $15,000 to Daybreak to fund additional food demands.
  • $15,000 to Loaves & Fishes to fund additional food demands.
  • $15,000 to Meals on Wheels Bibb County to fund additional food demands.
  • $10,000 to Salvation Army Houston County to fund additional food and shelter demands.
  • $10,000 to Salvation Army Baldwin County to fund additional food and shelter demands.
  • $10,000 to Mentors Project to help with the feeding program.
  • $10,000 to Family Advancement Ministries to help with increase demand in food, housing assistance and utilities
  • $10,000 to Family Counseling Center to start a tele-counseling service.
  • $10,000 to Jay’s Hope to help families impacted by cancer.
  • $10,000 to United in Pink to help families impacted by cancer.
  • $1,000 to Food Insecurity initiative to rent box trucks to transport food to local church sponsored mobile pantries.
