YOUR SAY: A number of comments on various subjects from a native-born Maconite

First, let me say, I am a native-born citizen of the United States. As a matter of fact, I am a native-born Maconite, having been born in the good old Macon Hospital before it became Navicent Health. This also shows my age and the fact that I have been around awhile and have my own thoughts about things.

Regarding Michael Myers' letter "Wake Up America," in Sunday's Telegraph he says what all politicians have in common is that they are liars. I don't disagree with that statement. It is his following comment about voters for Donald Trump being either mentally challenged or just plain stupid that I challenge. Let's see, the last I checked, Trump has never held a political office in his life so he is not a politician. He is running for his first political office. And then the writer goes on to tell us he will be voting for Hillary Clinton. OK, last time I checked, she is a politician. Is she also a liar? Now who is mentally challenged or stupid? Myers needs to think out his comments a little more. We would not want anyone to think he is stupid, using his word, not mine. At least we should agree on one thing and that is Trump is not a stupid man.

Now on to Dr. Bill Cummings' column on the previous page of the same paper titled "I'm mad as hell!" I hope Myers read that, too. Cummings refers to the movie "13 Hours" about the Benghazi murders. This occurred under the watch, and shall I say, at least with some direction of, Hillary Clinton. So, Myers, should we cast our vote for someone who called this a "small demonstration based on a video," and then said, "what difference does it make?" You won't see my precious vote going in that direction. Keep on writing "Dr. C"; you make us think. Everyone should go see "13 Hours" before they cast a vote.

As for Arthur Brooks' letter about C. Jack Ellis and his expansive letters. Why does The Telegraph give him so much space? Why should we care what a has-been politician (Oh, is he a liar, too?) has to say? I agree with Brooks that the electorate well remembers Ellis and his performance and let's hope we never see his name appear on our ballots again.

Now for some of my own thoughts. I am also old enough to have seen the move "Network" and I, too, am mad as hell and shouting out my window that I'm not going to take it anymore, referring to the political situation in this country, which is a mess. As I see it, the people who are elected only appear to care about their prestige, power and fortune and not what the people who elected them need or want.

I am in favor of term limits for all political offices. Two four year terms for all offices should be in place. Obama even said he would not run for a third term even if he could because we need fresh ideas. I actually agree with Obama on something. New people bring in fresh ideas and new viewpoints. If you cannot make a difference in the direction of this country, hopefully for the good, in eight years, you should not continue to be there.

Then, once out of office, all politicians should not be eligible for retirement benefits or health benefits or special privileges or be able to become lobbyists for their "crony" companies. They supposedly ran for political office to serve the country, so when they go home again, they should find jobs, sign up for health benefits and work for a living like the rest of us and remember how the real world works again.

By the way, not all is bad in the world. Just over a week ago In the span of eight days, I was fortunate to hear the music of Buddy Holly (Grand Opera House play), live music from Greg Allman (Grand Opera House) and then the music of Michael Jackson with the Macon Symphony Orchestra at the auditorium. All were great and, thankfully, well attended. Macon is full of music and entertainment for your enjoyment if you want it.

Finally, I really enjoy Larry Walker's and Charles Richardson's columns in the Sunday paper. And I love the fact The Telegraph finally put that aggravating, front page/third page piece of an ad where it could be slipped off and discarded without having to tear it off my paper. Some changes are good.

Valerie Wynn is a resident of Macon.
