Guns on campus

Gov. Nathan Deal is concerned about guns being carried on college campuses. What is confusing is the fact that even law enforcement officers have to undergo proper training before using firearms out in the general public. The scenario where young people go to get educated and pay their tuition and still have to worry about being safe should be addressed by students, their parents and the school with proper security measures. If everyone could get a driver's license before learning to drive, there would be even more fatalities.

Having to take a life is a very serious situation and a heavy burden to bear for a young person trying to obtain a college education. Proper preparation and training is needed to handle something of this magnitude.

Lying: New political normal?

First, thank you conservatively minded people for taking the time to try and explain the United States' security and financial woes to liberally minded people. Second, thank you to liberal Viewpoint writers since it gives me pleasure writing in to explain the truth. The truth nowadays seems really hard to find, especially in the world of politics. Are you as sick as I am when it comes to politicians' constant bickering and lying? Apparently, lying is the new normal and has no political party affiliation.

I'm no psychiatrist, however, I have two degrees in psychology and will tell you Hillary Clinton is not just a compulsive liar (lying out of habit and finds the truth uncomfortable), but also a pathological one (lying to get her way with no regard for others). She even tells lies about her lies. I'm no fan of Donald Trump, either and never watched his show. I think Trump is just as arrogant as Obama and neither of them is presidential. Compared to Clinton though, Trump is heads and shoulders higher, literally and figuratively, so I will support him. At least he seems to understand the U.S. security and financial issues. It really baffles me that the U.S. can't find honorable people with character, integrity and common sense to run for president.

Disgusted

I just wanted to say how disgusted and utterly ashamed I am for Georgia and it's unworthy governor upon his gutless veto of the "Religious Liberty Bill." Such bills as Georgia's and North Carolina's were labeled discriminatory. Indeed, a veto of them certainly is. It just depends what portion of the population you choose to discriminate against. Such an action is a blatant choice of whether to obey God or not. Georgia, sadly, has chosen.

Gov. Deal seems to have heeded special interests like the movie industry who threatened to pull their vaunted movie project about Richard Pryor, starring Oprah Winfrey, I believe. Imagine that? Neither are of such character that anyone should honor, emulate them, nor base any fate of legislation upon. Several other studios including Lionsgate, CBS Corporation, Walt Disney and Marvel Entertainment indicated they would move production out of Georgia if Deal signed the bill.

Georgia, by way of the sewer of its turncoat politicians, has selected money over God and perversion rather than holiness. We, as a state, will be held accountable.

Good work

I am so pleased with the newly completed Gunn Road widening, repaving and sidewalks, etc. Also the recently improved intersection and signals on Hwy. 41 that eliminated massive traffic jams. Our county road improvement program has been one success after another.

I would certainly give our county commissioners, especially Chairman Tommy Stalnaker and Robbie Dunbar, the director of operations, kudos for their vital roles in the improvement of our county roads. Our new and renovated county libraries are to be commended as are our county citizens without whom all the above would not be possible.

Make no mistake, its the citizens of Houston County who approve Special purpose local option sales taxes that fund so many county projects. The Centerville Library was funded by $2 million in state funds plus $3.2 million or so in SPLOST funds. Of course we all know that at least one county library should be open Sundays and more evenings and holidays. This would be a win, win and be a more efficient use of our expensive county libraries that cost millions of dollars to build and operate.

All of the above hopefully will give a gleam on just some of the progress citizens of our county have supported throughout recent times for our vastly improved county infrastructure. Let's re-elect the two county, incumbent commissioners, who merit another term because of work done.

Deception stepping into the light

The people of the 13 original colonies, tired of rule by Great Britain, put together a well-known but obviously forgotten document titled, The Declaration of Independence. That document stipulates that governments get their powers from the governed people, and when that power becomes destructive, it is the people's right to abolish it. That document actually goes a bit further in saying it is the people's duty to throw off such government and provide new future security.

It seems apparent that the governed people have become infiltrated by people willfully exercising huge examples of hypocrisy, distrust and total deception. Those people, along with their hidden agendas, are seeking the rule of power and control over the people.

I was one who was duped into thinking that our free elections provided rule by the people. Today I see another power dissatisfied and angrily attempting to maintain its power. I see the indifference of the Republican and Democratic Party as not really that indifferent.

Our government was built on the absolute best intentions. But over the many years, another type of people have used that time for deception. I see that deception making its attempt to grasp control. It is taking its first step out into the light.
