Wake up America
First, a question on politics. What do all politicians have in common? I hope you know the answer. They are all liars. If you have any thoughts of voting for Donald Trump, you are either mentally challenged or just plain stupid. The things he spouts off on are lies, impossibilities, unconstitutional or just nuts. He should never be elected to any political office much less president. If we had a dictatorship, he would be perfect.
He is a narcissistic, egotistical blowhard with a bad temper. He will have the U.S. in a nuclear war in six months if somehow elected.
Please wake up America and check out the people who you vote for and make an educated decision. For him to be on top of the polls should give you an idea what the Republican Party is about — money- grubbing idiots.
I will be voting for Hillary Clinton. Men have got us in the deplorable situation in this country. Please give a woman a chance.

Less for more?
The new Macon-Bibb recycling program includes the statement "Every home will have the opportunity to have curbside single stream recycling, something that many residents have been requesting for several years." However glass must be taken to four designated fire station locations for recycling.
How is this single stream recycling when glass is excluded? The excuse given is that broken glass contaminates the remaining recycled items and therefore they are not able to be recycled.
With the increase in garbage fee it seems citizens are paying more for less service. Do our elected leaders really believe that glass items are going to be recycled?

'Keep writing'
Leroy Mack's letter on the judicious expense of public safety money being well spent during the recent Trump political visit to Macon was well said.
I am thankful for the expansive letters from former Mayor Ellis as he tries to keep his name before the public. The letters mean he is still out of elected public offices benefiting us all. Ellis need not worry. The electorate remembers his name and what he did and how he performed in his two terms as Macon's mayor. Keep writing Mayor Ellis.

Impact of big meat
I agree that our government has a lack of regard for public health when they are swayed by large agri-businesses to disregard scientific findings concerning nutrition and the effects of meat. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has estimated that an average of eight years is added to the life of a vegetarian; 12 years to vegans, but you'd certainly have to dig to find that info.
Time magazine reported that "a sweeping review released on Oct. 26, 2015, the World Health Organization officially identified processed meat as a Group 1 carcinogen, meaning the quality of the evidence firmly links it to cancer." It seems as though this international organization is able to publish their findings more openly because they aren't as vulnerable to the impact of large American meat producers.
I believe years ago Oprah was sued by an American meat promoter citing damage due to her opinion about vegetarianism. Really?

Who is God?
There is not a man alive or even dead that has not asked that question. Each and every society has tried to tell people who God is. There is no simple answer. To each of us, God is different. That includes the atheist. To the atheist God is no god. God is a thought or superstition. To the believer, God is everything. He is the creator, the father, mother, son and Holy Ghost. God is nothing yet God is everything.
God is a thought, a belief, that carries our souls and life force in his hands. God is something that we need even if we fail to believe. Our souls require a god that is there for us. All too often we fail to find God. We look in the wrong places. We are blind by sin that leaves our heart in a question. That question can be answered in prayer, love, hope, charity and faith. You can find God in your backyard, I did.

Growing inequality
Our new federal budget of $1.8 trillion proudly makes permanent "hundreds of billions in tax breaks for low-and-moderate-income families and boosted aid for college students." These tax credits have become Uncle Sam's "largest cash-assistance program to fight poverty with more than 40 million people receiving benefits annually."
House Speaker Paul Ryan, R-Wisconsin, has predicted that his goal will be to cut "hundreds of billions from Medicaid, food assistance and other programs for our poor." He obviously is not interested in the huge gaps between the rich and poor and massive and growing income inequality.

Home away from home
I want to thank a valuable asset that we have in our community, Lynnhaven Health and Rehabilitation in Gray. My mother-in-law, Maxine Nesbit, lived there for two years, until she passed away the Jan. 2. Everyone there was so professional, caring and compassionate. They made Maxine and the family feel like family. I cannot say enough good things about Lynnhaven. From the nurses, techs and even the maintenance staff, they were always there to check on her. She loved that place and said it felt like home.
Thanks to all the staff there for your wonderful support and care that you gave both Maxine and all of us. We love you so much.
