LETTER: Senate needs to confirm anti-trafficking ambassador
To the Editor: On July 19, 2022, the U.S. State Department released the 2022 Trafficking in Persons (TIP) Report. Human trafficking is a massive global challenge and I encourage concerned Americans to read the report and urge policymakers to take action to confront this injustice.
The Senate Foreign Relations Committee is the body that will question President Biden’s nominee for Ambassador-at-Large to Monitor and Combat Trafficking in Persons – a post that currently is vacant. I urge Senator Ossoff and Senator Warnock to call on Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Senator James Risch (R-ID) to convene that committee for a hearing to consider Cindy Dyer as the nominee to lead anti-trafficking efforts across the U.S. government.
I also ask both Ossoff and Warnock to vote in support of Ms. Dyer’s nomination when it reaches the Senate floor. As a Georgian, I am counting on our lawmakers to ensure that the fight against human trafficking doesn’t get lost among the many competing issues before them.
