Need answers

The garage fee may be used to pay the private contractor, but we still have a department in the city, known as the solid waste department. If they no longer pick up solid water as we now pay an independent contractor, what, pray tell, do they actually do? They certainly do not answer the telephone or return phone calls which irritated me to no end.

I called the tax collector to protest being charged for two dwellings on my property and was referred to solid waste as the department to contact. I called all day and left messages. No one returned calls or picked up the phone. The question is; will I receive an answer before April with an answer to why they decided to change us to two dwellings after 35 years as a single-family dwelling.

Rebuttal to the rebuttal

I knew Jerry Norris would hit back. Since we read the same newspaper I’d say I am just as informed as he is. But what I don’t know is why the investigation into Russian collusion is solely an attempt by Democrats to overturn the election? Maybe I am uniformed about how you can overturn a presidential election since you can’t overturn the Electoral College. Mueller is Republican, appointed by Rosenstein, a Republican, who was nominated by President Trump. Republican leaders in Congress called for an investigation into Russian collusion and praised Mueller as the right man for the job. Doesn’t sound like an attempt by Democrats to me.

Even if Trump and Vice President Mike Pence are impeached, a Republican will still be in the Oval Office. Norris may be an independent thinker but he’s not doing any research or obtaining facts, rather, just believing lies. He and I agree that what our political leaders are telling us is not always a good thing. When I say “good thing,” I mean the truth. Norris’ leaders are obviously Republicans. He should not assume Democrats are my leaders because he would be wrong.

Norris fans the flames of hate by dragging political discourse into college football and trying to put a political wedge between fans. What does college football have to do with Russian collusion? Can you impeach a coach? What does a representative from California have to do with anything around here? His joke was dumb and unoriginal. Independent thinking, is that what you call it?

Game scores

I find it amazing that The Telegraph does not cover more local collegiate sports. We are now in basketball season and local colleges are all playing games nearly weekly.

Mercer has a top-ranked women’s team. Last Wednesday they played George Washington University, a well known university. There was no mention of the game in Tuesday or Wednesday’s paper. Why not? How will the Macon community know about this game? Mercer trounced them which was well covered in Thursday’s paper.

They played UNC-Asheville yesterday afternoon and there is nothing in today’s paper?

Well, you have covered some Mercer games, but what about Middle Georgia State University, Georgia College & State University, Fort Valley State University and Wesleyan College? One would not know they were even playing intercollegiate basketball by reading your paper. I can find scores for schools from all over the country on the sports page, but none from Middle Georgia.

I don’t understand why you can’t at least insert a box of recent scores and future games for all local colleges somewhere on the page which has scores and schedules from the east, west, north and south, but not Middle Georgia.

Interchange work

Now that we have seen tree removal, placement of barriers and lots of confusion at the interchange of Interstate-75 and Interstate-16, can we get an updated drawing of the finished project. Also a projected date of completion? I hope I am alive to see the completion. And please put it on the front page for all to see and study.

Gwen Arrington,

Macon

The first phase of the project is scheduled to be completed in June 2021, however, the final phase isn’t scheduled to be put out for bid until 2023, according to the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Prayer works!

On Sunday morning at 8:50 a.m. when we arrived at our church we discovered we did not have power for lights, heat or anything. Our Holy Eucharist service at St. Paul’s starts promptly at 10 a.m. and without power the sound system and organ do not function. So we were faced with no lights, no heat, no music or anything, and it was very cold. We found out after the service that our priest had taken the time to say a serious prayer to God at about 9:45 a.m. for the power to be restored before 10 a.m.

Apparently the prayer was heard by God and he enabled the Georgia Power linemen to locate and repair the problem and at 9:58 a.m. the heat, lights, sound system and organ all became operational and our service started right on time. When that happened you could hear most of the folks who were in the congregation saying “Amen.” Just another example of how God does hear and answer prayer. Thanks be to God.

Incomplete pass?

Before everyone gets all the more heated up and crucifies the referee who made the call of an incomplete pass, did the Peach County player step out of bounds without being forced out and then come back in bounds and be the first to touch the ball? If so, that is the very definition of an incomplete pass.

Project Blue Light

During the holidays won’t you make sure that you decorate in blue. By placing one blue light in a window of your home, you will be showing your support for our police officers who have died in the line of duty and to those who continue to serve our community.

Headline news

Iraq celebrated its victory over the Islamic State with a military parade Sunday in the capital, a day after Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi announced the successful ouster of the jihadist group from the country. How come this isn’t “headline news”?
