EDITORIAL: Watch out, here they come
If we thought we had escaped the deluge, think again, the tsunami is about to begin. Count down the hours and minutes, but shortly after the polls close Saturday in South Carolina and the caucuses end in Nevada, the candidates head for the SEC primaries in more than a dozen states on March 1. Unfortunately, what that means for us is they will bring their six-figure ad buys with them and the airways will be carpet bombed with accusations. Hillary Clinton, according to The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, was the first candidate to pull out a checkbook in Georgia.
So far this race has more ups and downs than a roller coaster and South Carolina could very well provide another high for Donald Trump who is leading there in the latest polls. According to Fox News, Trump has 32 percent among South Carolina likely Republican primary voters followed by Ted Cruz at 19 percent and Marco Rubio at 15 percent. Jeb Bush and Ben Carson are tied at 9 percent each. Gov. John Kasich gets 6 percent.
For the Democrats, Hillary Clinton could get back in the winner's circle. She leads, according to CNN, 56 percent to Sen. Bernie Sanders' 38 percent.
No matter the outcome in the Palmetto State, only the most avid political enthusiast will enjoy what's headed our way between now and March 1.
