Trump's approval rating hovering near record lows, latest poll shows
President Donald Trump continues to struggle in the polls as his approval rating hovers near record lows in a new Economist/YouGov poll, with just 37% of Americans saying they approve of his job performance.
The poll, conducted July 10-13 among 1,616 respondents, found 59% disapproved of Trump (plus or minus 3.3 percentage points). The same poll found that 54% of respondents said that America's standing in the world has worsened since the beginning of Trump's second term.
Outside of his approval rating as president, a majority of respondents also said they disapproved of Trump's handling of the Iran war.
In the most recent poll, 59% said they strongly or somewhat disapproved of the president's actions; that number has remained steady since the beginning of the war, peaking at 64% at the end of May.
Trump's dismal approval rating could prove helpful in Democrats' push to regain control of Congress in November's midterms, as Tuesday's poll showed Democrats leading Republicans by four percentage points.
Iran proving difficult for Trump
The Economist/YouGov poll comes less than a day after the most recent Reuters/Ipsos poll, which showed that a vast majority of Americans believe the U.S.-Iran war will drag on for a long time.
The poll, released on Monday, July 13, showed that 79% of respondents believe that U.S. military actions in Iran will "go on for an extended period of time."
Similar to the most recent Economist/YouGov poll, the Reuters/Ipsos poll also showed that the Iran war was unpopular with Americans, as 58% said they disapproved of U.S. military strikes against Iran.
New numbers from both surveys come as renewed fighting between the United States and Iran has escalated tensions in the region and as Trump declared the preliminary ceasefire agreement between the countries "over."
What is Trump's approval average?

Lowest presidential approval rating ever

Truman, who hit 22% in February 1952, according to Cornell University's Roper Center for Public Opinion Research. Trump's lowest approval rating ever is 29%, which was recorded Jan. 8-12, 2021, near the end of his first term, according to the center.
