For over 150 years, the Greater Macon Chamber of Commerce has been an influential leader in Macon-Bibb County and the Southeast region for business and economic development. Recently, the Chamber’s focus has been on talent and workforce development, seeking better alignment of existing partners and resources to work toward long-term talent attraction and retention for the area.

Crucial to the success of a community and its businesses is a reliable and talented workforce, which begins at the school level. It is more important than ever to provide effective talent pathways and programs for K-12 students.

By combining academic studies with hands-on learning outside of the classroom, students gain the confidence to continue their education or enter the workforce upon graduation.

The Chamber’s recent partnership with workforce service providers comprised of the Macon Bibb County School System, Work Source and Central Georgia Technical College has led to the development of a new talent and workforce strategy, bringing education, business, technology, and government partners together.

It is important for business and school leaders to recognize the long-term benefits of investing in experiential learning programs. Business leaders can offer shadowing days, internships, mentorships, and other programs that foster hands-on learning. School leaders can aid students with work-study programs, dual enrollment, and teach them employable skills in the classroom.

The Greater Macon Chamber will advance a growing partnership of business employers seeking to advance talent by internship engagement. A win-win strategy.

By creating an optimal environment for education, engagement, and employment, Macon-Bibb will successfully create new opportunities for advanced capital investment and elevated job creation.
