Thousands affected by power outages in Macon, Middle Georgia during storms

More than 7,000 people in Macon lost power during storms that rolled through Middle Georgia Thursday night, according to utility trackers.

Macon was put under a severe thunderstorm warning Thursday, and the severe weather caused the thousands of outages, according to poweroutage.us.

The number of outages was significantly reduced by Friday afternoon, with poweroutage.us reporting fewer than 500 outages at noon.

On Georgia Power’s outage map, several outages in Macon had an estimated restoration time of 11:45 p.m. Friday. Others showed that workers were “re-evaluating” the condition of the outage.

A handful of surrounding counties also still had outages Friday morning. Monroe County had more than 700 and Crawford County had more than 250.
