These Middle Georgia schools close Thursday, extending classroom delays amid icy weather

As temperatures plunged into the 20s and anticipated hazardous road conditions emerged, several schools and universities in Middle Georgia announced their closures early this week.

School closures for Thursday are starting to roll in. One private school has already announced it will remain closed tomorrow and continue its shift to virtual learning.

Here is a list of Middle Georgia schools and universities that have changed their schedules for Thursday, which will be updated.

Baldwin County

• The Baldwin County School District will be closed Thursday. All extracurricular activities canceled.
• Georgia Military College: All GMC locations will be closed Thursday, with plans for a delayed start time of 9 a.m. on Friday.

• Georgia College & State University: GCSU campus closure extends through Thursday. Non-essential staff work remotely.

Bibb County

• Academy for Classical Education: Remote learning continued Thursday.
• Bibb County Schools will be closed Thursday.
• Cirrus Academy Charter School will be closed Thursday.
• Covenant Academy will be closed Thursday. Thursday’s basketball games are still pending.
• First Presbyterian Day School will be closed Thursday.
• Middle Georgia State University will have a delayed opening Thursday at 10 a.m
• Mount de Sales Academy will be closed Thursday and shift to virtual learning. All Thursday after-school activities are canceled.
• St. Andrews Montessori will remain closed Thursday.
• St. Peter Claver Catholic School will be closed Thursday and have a virtual learning day.

• Tattnall Square Academy will be closed Thursday. All after-school and athletic events are also canceled.

• Windsor Academy will be closed Thursday. All games and after-school events have been canceled.

Crawford County

• Crawford County Schools and offices will be closed Thursday. All school-related activities are also canceled.

Houston County

• The Houston County School District will be closed Thursday for students and staff. All after-school and extracurricular activities are also canceled.

Jones County

• Jones County Schools will have a distance learning day on Thursday.

Monroe County

• Monroe County Schools will remain on an alternative learning day schedule for Thursday.

Peach County

• Fort Valley State University will continue virtual operations through Thursday.

• Peach County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Thursday. All after-school activities are canceled.

Twiggs County

• The Twiggs County School District will be closed Thursday for a distance learning day.
• Twiggs Academy will be closed Thursday. All after-school activities are canceled.
