Winter storm watch prompts Middle GA schools to cancel classes Tuesday, Wednesday

Snowy weather is headed toward Middle Georgia, prompting local school districts to cancel classes for the second time this month.

Several schools and universities in Middle Georgia announced Monday afternoon changes to this week’s normal operations due to the rare, freezing temperatures. School officials said they will continue to monitor the inclement weather for the rest of the week.

Here is a list of Middle Georgia schools and universities that have changed their schedules for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Baldwin County

• Baldwin County Schools: The Baldwin County School District will shift to remote learning for students on Tuesday and Wednesday.

• Georgia College & State University: Campus closure for Tuesday and Wednesday.
• Georgia Military College: GMC will close the entire institution on Tuesday and Wednesday, including the main campus, GMC Preparatory School and all Junior College satellite campuses.

Bibb County

• Academy for Classical Education: ACE is closed Tuesday and Wednesday, which are remote learning days for students.

• Bibb County Schools: All BCSD schools and offices will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday. All after-school programs and extracurricular events are canceled. The public hearings on HB 581 will also be rescheduled.

• Cirrus Academy Charter School: All classes and extracurricular activities have been canceled Tuesday and Wednesday for students and staff.

• Covenant Academy: Covenant Academy students will be dismissed early on Tuesday, and all Tuesday after-school activities are canceled. The school will be closed Wednesday.

• First Presbyterian Day School: FPD will operate on a half-day schedule on Tuesday. Lower school dismissal begins at noon, and upper school at 12:25 p.m. No lunch will be served, and no aftercare services will be available. FPD will be closed Wednesday.

• Mercer University: All Tuesday classes scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. or later are canceled. Offices close at 2 p.m.

• Middle Georgia State University: MGA offices will operate remotely on Tuesday. The Recreation & Wellness Centers on the Macon campus will be closed.

• Mount de Sales Academy: The MDS campus will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, and all after-school activities will be canceled. Students will have remote learning days. Classes will resume on Thursday.

• St. Andrews Montessori School: Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

• St. Joseph’s Catholic School: Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.

• St. Peter Claver Catholic School: Closed Tuesday and Wednesday, which will be virtual learning days for students.

• Stratford Academy: Students will transition to remote learning on Tuesday and Wednesday.

• Tattnall Square Academy: Tattnall Square Academy will have a staggered early release schedule on Tuesday, starting with K-3 and K-4 students being dismissed at noon. The school will be closed Wednesday.

• Wesleyan College: Offices will close Tuesday at noon. All in-person classes for the afternoon will be remote Tuesday if possible. Faculty and staff will work remotely Wednesday.

Crawford County

• Crawford County School System: Closed on Tuesday and Wednesday for remote learning. Assignments will be posted on Google Classroom by 8 am.

Houston County

• Central Georgia Technical College: All CGTC campuses and centers will move to remote operations on Tuesday and Wednesday.

• Houston County School District: HCSD will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday for all students and staff. All after-school and extracurricular activities are canceled.

• Sacred Heart Catholic School: Sacred Heart will be closed on Tuesday and Wednesday.

Jones County

• Jones County Schools: Closed Tuesday and Wednesday for distance learning days.

Monroe County

• Monroe County Schools: Closed Tuesday and Wednesday for alternative learning day schedules.

Peach County

• Fort Valley State University: FVSU will transition to virtual operations Tuesday and Wednesday
• Peach County Public Schools: All Peach County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Tuesday and Wednesday. All after-school events are canceled.

Twiggs County

• Twiggs Academy: School will close at noon Tuesday and for the full day Wednesday. All games and practices have been canceled.
• Twiggs County Public Schools: TCPS will have remote learning days Tuesday and Wednesday for students and staff. All after-school and extracurricular activities will be rescheduled.
