See which schools, universities are closed as Middle Georgia deals with freezing weather

Sleet, freezing rain and icy roads are expected to hit the Middle Georgia area on Friday, keeping with a trend of freezing temperatures that forecasters predicted would lower later this week.

As of Thursday afternoon, several schools and universities in Middle Georgia have announced changes to normal operations due to the weather.

For the cold days, each district makes its own informed decision on whether to close a school, taking into account potential risk factors such as hazardous road conditions, power outages and wind chills.

Here is a list of Middle Georgia schools and universities that have changed their schedules for Friday.

Baldwin County

• Baldwin County Schools: The Baldwin County School District will be closed on Friday, which will be a remote learning day for the district.
• Georgia Military College: GMC will be closed on Friday, including the main campus, GMC Prep School and all Junior College satellite locations across the state. All campus operations and classes will resume on Monday.

Bibb County

• Academy for Classical Education: ACE has canceled all classes and school activities for Friday.

• Bibb County Schools: All BCSD schools and offices will be closed on Friday. All Friday after school programs and athletics events are canceled. Classes will resume on Monday.

• Cirrus Academy: Asynchronous learning day on Friday, with classes to resume on Monday. All Friday after-school activities are canceled.

• Covenant Academy: Closed for friday. Saturday games will remain on schedule.

• First Presbyterian Day School: FPD will be closed Friday. All after school activities for Friday are canceled. Assessments and homework originally scheduled for Friday will be due on Monday.

• Mercer University: Classes and offices on Macon campus will be closed Friday. Staff may work remotely.

• Middle Georgia State University: University offices will be closed on Friday. Faculty & staff will work remotely.
• Mount de Sales Academy: MDA will be closed Friday, and all after school activities have been canceled. Classes will resume Monday.
• St. Andrews Montessori School: Closed for Friday.
• St. Peter Claver Catholic School: Closed for Friday. Classes will resume on Monday.
• St. Joseph’s Catholic School: Closed for Friday.
• Stratford Academy: Closed for Friday.

• Tattnall Square Academy: Closed for Friday.
• Windsor Academy: Closed for Friday. Classes will resume Monday.

Crawford County

• Crawford County School System: Closed on Friday.

Houston County

• Central Georgia Technical College: CGTC campuses and centers will be closed Friday.

Jones County

• Jones County Schools: The Jones County School System will be closed Friday.

Monroe County

• Monroe County Public Schools: Monroe County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Friday. All extracurricular activities will be canceled for Friday and Saturday. Classes will resume on Monday.
• Wesleyan College: Wesleyan College will not open until 10 a.m. on Friday. All Friday classes will be virtual, but campus student events scheduled for the evening will go as planned.

Peach County

• Peach County Schools: All schools will be closed for students and staff on Friday.

Twiggs County

• Twiggs Academy: All classes have been canceled for Friday.
• Twiggs County Public Schools: TCPS have canceled all classes and after school activities for Friday. Classes will resume on Monday.
