Macon Periods Easier announced Wednesday that the group’s annual Witches Float at Amerson River Park will not be happening this year.

The event, which was scheduled for Sunday, was canceled after the Ocmulgee River overflowed due to heavy rain from Hurricane Helene. Amerson River Park was closed indefinitely due to dangerous conditions and flooding.

“Our precious river is overflowing the banks and has caused the Amerson Park area to be closed down indefinitely,” Macon Periods Easier wrote on Instagram. “We know you are as disappointed as we are.”

Macon Periods Easier said it has goodie bags prepared for people who already purchased tickets to the event. The bags can be picked up at 1508 Hardeman Avenue Suite A. The bags can also be shipped if attendees email maconperiodseasier@gmail.com.

The annual event invites people to dress up and float down the Ocmulgee River. The proceeds benefit Macon Periods Easier, an initiative that works to alleviate poverty in the Macon area.
