No snow, as usual, in Christmas forecast for Middle Georgia. But there is plenty of ...
A dreary weather forecast for Christmas Day in Middle Georgia calls for a 90% chance of rain capped off by a possibility of thunderstorms that night. There is also a chance of lingering showers in the days that follow.
And no snow, as expected.
“Macon itself is kind of in the crosshairs for a lot of the rain that we’re expecting for Christmas,” forecaster Ty Vaughn of the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office said Thursday.
After mostly sunny skies on Saturday and parts of Sunday, clouds will roll in as daytime high temperatures hover in the 60s across the region.
“We’ve got a bit of a low-pressure system that’s gonna take shape in the Gulf over the next couple of days,” Vaughn said. “And as that slowly starts to push up ... we get a big surge of rain that’s gonna push into Georgia, mostly Central Georgia and then on up the coast.”
Much of the country, from the Midwest to the South, will see rain sometime over the three-day holiday weekend.
The extended forecast includes a 60% chance of rain on Tuesday and a 30% chance on Wednesday.
On the brighter side, overnight low temperatures, which have dipped below freezing in recent days, will gradually climb into the 40s and the 50s through Tuesday or so.
