Chilly weather is expected overnight at midweek for Macon and vicinity, cold weather not unlike what froze this fountain here years ago.

Chilled air sailing in behind a cold front was expected to send overnight temperatures plunging into the upper 20s across much of Middle Georgia by daybreak Wednesday.

While daytime highs for the remainder of the work week will climb into the 50s and 60s across the region, subfreezing temperatures are forecast for Tuesday and Wednesday nights.

The forecast low for early Wednesday morning for Macon is 28 degrees with a Thursday-morning low of about 31.

Sam Marlow, a forecaster at the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office, said that after a cold front passed through overnight Sunday, bringing clearing skies, there was “some robustly cold air behind it.”

Overnight lows, however, will warm and be in the 40s come Thursday night, and rain could return for the weekend.

There are better than a 50% chance of precipitation on Friday, Saturday and Sunday as clouds return and highs edge near 70 degrees during the day on Saturday.
