The blast of late-summer heat that forecasters have warned of in recent days was set to roast much of Georgia through Sunday.

The blazing temperatures, the hottest in what has been a sweltering week, were expected to hover around 100 degrees or slightly higher at times in and around Macon and Warner Robins through the weekend.

The National Weather Service, in a forecast discussion posted on its website Friday, mentioned a heat advisory issued for most of the state, declaring “the main concern today is going to be incredibly hot conditions areawide.”

Humidity-wrought heat indexes — or how it “feels” outdoors — will likely approach 110 degrees during the steamiest parts of the days through Sunday.

But relief is on the way as decent chances for rain and thunderstorms return to the midstate on Sunday night.

There is an 80% probability of storms and showers on Monday, when the forecast-high temperature is in the lower 90s.

High temperatures on Tuesday and Wednesday are not expected to reach 90 degrees, with highs of 88 forecast for much of Middle Georgia on those days.
