Middle GA and Columbus may see some storms later tonight. Here’s what to know.
Parts of Middle Georgia and other Southern regions may see some storm activity through this evening, said the National Weather Service’s Storm Prediction Center.
According to the NWS, “a strong belt of very strong mid-level/deep-layer southwesterly winds” will pass through the area. “The potential for damaging winds, at least on isolated basis, is expected to increase through the afternoon.”
The NWS Southern Region tweeted that a cold front was making its way through the South. With it may come some severe weather, such as gusty winds and some rain or thunderstorms.
The Storm Prediction Center’s outlook report echoed the tweet with a prediction that there would be a “slight risk of severe thunderstorms across portions of the deep South” this evening.
The Center also stated that the threat may linger into the night hours.
The Weather Channel’s Meteorologist Danielle Banks in Atlanta said that the threat level for tornadoes is on the “low end.” She also stated that “isolated wind does have the potential to cause damage in places like northern Florida, Georgia and up through West Virginia.” The rain total for tonight and Wednesday is expected to be around 0.10” in Atlanta and even less in Middle Georgia.
