A low pressure system from the Gulf is heading toward Middle Georgia. What to expect

A low pressure system in the Gulf of Mexico will make its way over Middle Georgia this week, forecasters say.

Macon is expected to receive 1.5 to 2 inches of rain in the next few days from the system, which is the equivalent to the amount of rain Macon would normally receive in two weeks during this time of year, said Kyle Thiem, a meteorologist for the National Weather Service.

Thiem said Residents should expect to see fog, lightning and wind gusts as the system moves over Georgia.

“I think the main thing we’re mostly concerned about is if we have heavy storms for a prolonged period of time,” he said. “There is a chance we could see some isolated flooding.

Thiem said drivers should be cautious when driving in heavy rains as the system passes through and to watch for flooding.
