Below-freezing temperatures on the way to Macon this week, forecasters say
A cold front making its way across the central southern United States will bring rain and below-freezing low temperatures to the Macon area this week.
The estimated low for Macon early Wednesday is 34 degrees. On Thursday, the low dips below freezing to 30 degrees, according to the National Weather Service.
As of Monday morning, forecasts predict the Macon area could see less than an inch of rain Tuesday with the strongest storms occurring between 7 and 9 a.m.
“The storms weaken a good bit by the time they are getting eastward into Macon,” said Katie Martin, a forecaster with the National Weather Service’s Peachtree City office.
Temperatures will drop from 67 degrees in the mid-afternoon to the upper 40s by 7 p.m Tuesday. Wind speeds are expected to reach 15 to 30 miles per hour with the occasional gust over 30, Martin said.
“The cool-down comes around dinner time,” Martin said. “It will be a bit gusty behind that cold front.”
Lows early Wednesday and Thursday will hover around or below the freezing mark.
