Is dreaded heat dome headed to GA? Here’s the latest spring weather forecast
Spring officially began on Mar. 20, but it looks like summer heat may already be in the mix.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), “above-normal temperatures are favored,” in most of the country for April through June.
Similarly, AccuWeather experts are predicting “a record-breaking March heat dome” for some parts of the US, but will it reach Georgia? Here’s what to know:
Is a heat dome coming for GA?
While NWS experts predict “above-normal temperatures,” this spring and an overall increase in drought conditions, folks in Georgia shouldn’t worry about a heat dome just yet.
“The highest likelihood of enhanced warmth ranges from the Southwest to the Inter-Mountain West,” according to NWS forecasters.
States facing heat dome-like temperatures are California, Arizona and Nevada, ultimately shutting down hiking trails and increasing drought risks. Temperatures in these states will feel like summer and while southeast states won’t feel the heat dome effects yet, southern states will still have slightly above normal temperatures.
NWS also forecasts above-normal precipitation chances, so drought conditions will stay on the mend for Georgia and surrounding states.
