Residents across Georgia contributed to one of the most notable community moments according to GoFundMe’s 2025 Year in Help report.

The report offers a snapshot of how that generosity showed up across the state to help solve emergencies, keep small businesses afloat and students with big goals.

A record year of giving

GoFundMe’s 2025 report highlights a global surge in everyday generosity, with 2.5 donations made every second on average. The most generous day of the year on the platform was Jan. 10, when hundreds of thousands of donors around the world rallied for families and businesses affected by weeks-long wildfires in Los Angeles.

Georgia’s giving history

In Georgia, the year’s most notable giving moment centered on the family of Atlanta Police Officer David Rose who was killed trying to stop an active shooter.

A GoFundMe campaign in his honor raised nearly $630,000.

Although that was the biggest amount raised, it was far from the only instance of Georgia’s generosity.

Most notable moments

  • Dacula: $230,000 was raised to support Mykale Baker $170,000 to leave his job at Burger King and go to college.
  • St. Marys: $170,000 was raised for Annette Morales when her car broke down for good.
  • Columbus: $50,000 went to help Crystal Franklin and her family after the unexpected loss of her husband.
  • Athens: $46,000 was donated to Avid Books for expansion and updates.

Georgia also saw major fundraisers for educators and local businesses, contributing to 79 donations.
