These 10 vehicles are stolen the most in GA, report says. Is yours on the list?

Data from the National Insurance Crime Bureau reveals more than 300,000 vehicles were reported stolen in the first half of 2025, which is less than previous years and is closing in on pre-pandemic statistics.

However, even though car thefts are trending down in Georgia, some car owners still have reason to worry. It turns out, some cars are more likely to be stolen than others, and the results may not be what you would expect.

The most commonly stolen cars in America

The District of Columbus topped the list of states or areas with the highest vehicle theft rate, with California a distant second.

The models of cars that consistently land on the list are not luxury brands or particularly expensive, but they are often easier to steal and more available to thieves.

The most commonly stolen cars in Georgia

Georgia’s motor theft rate was considerably lower than the national average, dropping significantly in 2024, yet the most commonly stolen cars vary wildly.

Pick-up trucks were more often stolen, likely for their high resale, part value and their popularity.

The NICB has a few tips to prevent vehicle theft from occurring:

To prevent theft:

  • Park in well-lit areas
  • Roll up your windows
  • Lock your doors
  • Never leave your vehicle running while unattended
  • Always take your keys with you
  • Consider using anti-theft technology

If it is stolen

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration also shared tips for keeping your car safe from theft.

  • Contact law enforcement and file a report. 
  • Contact your car insurance company and file a claim

Make sure to alert all parties if you find your car before they do.
