Man out of jail on domestic violence charges now kills girlfriend, GA cops say
A man accused of assaulting and kidnapping his girlfriend is now accused of killing her after his release from jail, Georgia authorities say.
Investigators in Cobb County found the body Oct. 14 of 45-year-old Tange Davis, who police said was reported missing Oct. 11.
Her son said he had last heard from Davis two days before he found her vehicle in a Lidl parking lot in Mableton, police said.
The woman’s boyfriend, 56-year-old Cecil McCrary, gave officers security footage that showed Davis leaving his home the night of Oct. 9, according to investigators.
McCrary was later taken into custody, and he “admitted to killing Tange Davis and burying her body in the City of Atlanta,” police said, adding that her remains were then located.
Davis was a St. Louis native who had relocated near Atlanta, according to KMOV.
She worked in the medical field and would normally be in touch with her family multiple times a day, relatives told WSB.
“This loss devastates all of us,” Cobb County Police Chief Dan Ferrell said in a statement. “Our hearts are with her family, and we are reminded that behind every statistic is a person, a mother, a friend, a colleague whose life mattered.”
Police said McCrary had been part of “multiple domestic violence incidents” involving Davis before her killing.
He was out of jail and awaiting trial on kidnapping and aggravated assault charges in those cases, police said.
Jail records show McCrary was charged with theft and concealing the death of another. He has not been charged with murder as of Oct. 16.
“This is a deeply tragic and senseless loss that has profoundly affected all who knew her and the broader community that had hoped for her safe return,” according to police. “We share in the grief of those mourning her and remain steadfast in our commitment to seek justice on her behalf.”
Mableton is about a 15-mile drive northwest from downtown Atlanta.
