Powerball player wins $1 million prize in Georgia. Where was lucky ticket sold?
A Powerball player just missed the jackpot — but still won a life-changing prize in Georgia.
The player bought a ticket that matched all but one number picked in the Oct. 1 drawing, making it worth $1 million. The winner joins another person in the state who scored $50,000 in the same drawing, results show.
The winning numbers: white balls 8-17-22-28-55, with red Powerball 14.
So, where did the Powerball players try their luck? Here’s what the Georgia Lottery shared in a news release:
- A $1 million ticket was sold at a Publix grocery store in Alpharetta, near Atlanta.
- A $50,000 ticket was sold at an El Cheapo convenience store in Richmond Hill, near Savannah.
The winners have a lot to celebrate after spending $2 to play Powerball. The Alpharetta ticket matched all the white balls picked in the drawing, while the Richmond Hill ticket matched four white balls and the red ball.
Both players were one number from scoring a jackpot prize, which stood at an estimated $175 million. No one hit the jackpot, making the $1 million win the largest in the country the night of the drawing, according to the Powerball website.
Early Oct. 2, a Georgia Lottery spokesperson told McClatchy News via email that no one had claimed the $1 million prize. In the Peach State, Powerball winners have about six months to cash in, rules show.
