A man accused of killing two people found dead in a burning Indiana home has been located 12 years later at an ICE facility, authorities say.

The Clarksville Police Department said Carlos Alberto Bonilla-Canenguez, a Salvadoran national, was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement in July and was being held at a federal facility in Georgia.

His name was flagged upon his arrest, police said. Since October 2013, he had been “wanted for questioning” in the deaths of Amando “Miguel” Rodriguez Solis and Julio Caesar Ventura Monzon, according to the Louisville Courier-Journal.

Bonilla-Canenguez’s DNA was collected by officers, and it was found to be a match from DNA collected at the scene of the Oct. 9, 2013, double homicide in Clarksville, police said.

He is accused of fatally stabbing the two victims, who were found in a burning home, police said.

“He’s a killer. He’s killed people here in the state of Indiana,” Clarksville Police Chief Nathan Walls said in a news briefing streamed by WAVE. “Those victims have earned the right, the hard way, for this guy to have to answer to those crimes.”

Both of the victims lived in the home with Bonilla-Canenguez, WAVE reported at the time.

A motive for the killing is unclear, but Walls said there were “some issues between the roommates.”

“They were only working and roofing,” Ernesto Aguliar, a friend of the victims, told WAVE. “They were not looking for no trouble with nobody.”

Bonilla-Canenguez will be extradited back to Clarksville, according to police.

“The first hurdle was finding him, the second hurdle is connecting him to the actual crime. Thank God for modern technology,” Walls said, adding that the arrest is “a sense of accomplishment” for the department.

Clarksville is an Indiana suburb of Louisville, Kentucky.
