The 2025–26 U.S. News & World Report Best Hospitals evaluated 171 hospitals in Georgia and 15 met high U.S. News standards and are recognized as Best Regional Hospitals.

Emory University Hospital, Atlanta

  • #1 in national Georgia rankings
  • Nationally ranked in cancer, cardiology and gastroenterology and GI surgery specialties
  • Patient experience score: 4 out of 5 stars

Emory St. Joseph’s Hospital, Atlanta

  • #2 in national Georgia rankings
  • High performing in gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, orthopedics, pulmonology and lung and urology specialties
  • Patient experience score: 2 out of 5

Northeast Georgia Medical Center, Gainsville

  • #3 in national Georgia rankings

Criteria for best hospitals

To be named Best Regional Hospital, a facility needs to:

  • Earn at least eight High Performing ratings out of the 22 evaluated procedures and conditions
  • Have at least five more High Performing ratings than the total number of Evaluated ratings (the lowest rating tier) it received
  • Offers a full range of general medical and surgical services (as opposed to a specialty hospital)

To be considered for evaluation, a hospital has to meet at least one of the following criteria:

  • It was a teaching hospital
  • It was affiliated with a medical school
  • It had at least 200 beds set up and staffed
  • It had at least 100 beds and offered at least four out of eight advanced technologies associated with high-quality care, such as a PET/CT scanner and certain precision radiation therapies

Although no Columbus hospitals made the US News and World Report list they have held their own in recent rankings.
