A Georgia couple accused of waiting to report the death of their 6-month-old child is behind bars, state investigators said.

Dustin Sauls, 41, and Cierra Chancey, 36, both of Blackshear, were charged with concealing the death of another and cocaine possession related to the infant’s 2022 death, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said.

The bureau began investigating Sept. 28, 2022, at the request of the Baxley Police Department, according to a June 3 news release. Investigators learned Sauls and Chancey didn’t report their child’s death in timely manner and were accused of having cocaine at the time.

Authorities didn’t say how the 6-month-old died or how long Sauls and Chancey waited to report it.

The GBI declined to provide additional details, citing the ongoing investigation.

Both were arrested May 30 and taken to the Appling County Jail, investigators said.

Baxley is about a 90-mile drive southwest from downtown Savannah.
