A Warner Robins man died after he jumped out of a car on a highway in Monroe County Saturday, according to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office.

Darryl Thompson “jumped out of a moving car... and the girlfriend was in the car,” Anna Watkins, the sheriff’s public information officer told The Telegraph.

Deputies did not suspect foul play, Watkins said. It is unclear why Thompson jumped out of the vehicle.

Deputies were dispatched regarding “a male lying on the shoulder of the interstate,” around 2:12 a.m. on Ga. 401 southbound near mile marker 180, according to a press release. Thompson was “unconscious” when deputies arrived.

He was taken to Atrium Health Navicent hospital in Macon, where he later died, deputies said.

Thompson’s next of kin was notified, and the incident is under investigation.
