People are moving to Georgia from these 7 states the most, new Census data says. Here’s why

Georgia’s population is growing, according to the U.S. Census.

From 2021 to 2022, the state gained more than 102,000 residents.

So, which states did most of these newbies move from to call Georgia home?

According to U.S. Census data released Thursday, more than half of our neighbors to the south decided to cross the border. In 2022, 51,380 people moved from Florida to Georgia.

The majority of the new residents moved from Southern states. Georgia gained 23,754 people from Texas; 23,175 from North Carolina; 21,031 from Alabama; 18,785 from Tennessee; and 18,328 from South Carolina.

California and New York were also big contributors to Georgia’s population. Nearly 26,000 Californians and more than 16,000 New Yorkers moved to the Peach state.

According to United Van Lines, the reasons people move to Georgia are similar to the reasons they leave. Most moves are because of jobs, family and retirement. When it comes to the lifestyle, Georgia attracts more people than it loses. Health issues tend to send more people away from Georgia.
