Best burger in the US can be found in Georgia, Yelp says. Why it reigns supreme
Those in search of the best spot for a burger need look no further than Georgia.
Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q’s “burger” was ranked the best in Atlanta and all of America, thanks in part to its unique spin on the classic hamburger, according to review website Yelp.
The patty-less sandwich earned high marks on Yelp’s 2023 list of the Top 100 Burger Spots in the nation, released in May.
Inspired by Texas-style barbecue, the burger features chopped brisket topped with peppered bacon, pimento cheese, tomato, jalapeno mayo, red onion and pickles on a brioche bun.
Another Georgia burger joint, Slutty Vegan in Atlanta, joined Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q as a top contender, landing at No. 3 on the national list. The Black woman-owned business has amassed a cult following and is perhaps best known for its not-safe-for-work burger names.
The state is home to two other burger spots Yelpers named among the nation’s best. They are:
- Stockyard Burgers & Bones in Atlanta — No. 34
- Farm Burger in Decatur — No. 85
For the rankings, Yelp said it looked at U.S. restaurants where “burgers” were mentioned most in customer reviews shared online. It then “ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews,” according to the website.
Why fans can’t get enough
Fox Bros. has earned national recognition for its “burger,” the brainchild of brothers and co-owners Jonathan and Justin Fox as they struggled to come up with a burger that would stand out from the rest, Yelp said.
The Fort Worth natives were “homesick for Texas-style barbecue and after being unable to find the flavors they grew up with, the twin brothers decided to take matters into their own hands,” the restaurant’s website reads.
It isn’t the only offering customers raved about, however. Other popular dishes include the pulled pork, chicken fried ribs, beef brisket and combo plate, according to its Yelp page.
“I have a love for beef brisket, and may I say, theirs was cooked to perfection,” one person commented. “The side completely complimented the BBQ, and I feel that the portions will make sure to leave complete!”
Another gushed over the “fantastic” banana pudding, writing: “So nice, with slices of banana and nice vanilla cookie crumble mixed in. Such a great way to finish the meal.”
For vegans and meat-lovers alike, Slutty Vegan’s cheeky creations — including the One Night Stand, Fussy Hussy and Super Slut — are among fan-favorites. The take-out-only eatery also serves plant-based chicken sandwiches and chili dogs, according to its menu.
“This was good food,” one customer wrote on Yelp! “If all vegan food tastes this good, I’d become a vegan!”
