A woman was thrown from her scooter and killed after crashing into a deer, Georgia deputies told news outlets.

The accident occurred at about 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, near Lake Oconee in Eatonton, WSB-TV reported, citing the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators said Misty Renee Hunnicutt, 48, was riding her scooter when she hit a deer, according to The Eatonton Messenger. Hunnicutt didn’t have on a helmet and suffered severe head trauma, Sheriff Howard Sills told the newspaper.

Deputies didn’t find the deer but said parts of the scooter still had hair on them, the newspaper reported.

Hunnicutt was alive when paramedics arrived but died after she was taken to a hospital, according to WXIA.

Authorities didn’t release additional details.

McClatchy News reached out to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office on June 30 and was awaiting a response.

Eatonton is about 80 miles southeast of Atlanta.
