A man trapped inside a chimney at a motel had to be rescued by firefighters in Georgia.

The man, who is 25-30 years old, became stuck after crawling into the chimney of a Budget Inn in Savannah, according to a news release from the Savannah Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the motel just after 8 a.m. on Dec. 15, the release says. Rescuers decided the best way to reach the man would be to remove some concrete blocks encasing the chimney.

After about 30 minutes, firefighters were able to reach him and pull him out, the release says.

The man was not a worker or guest at the motel, a Budget Inn manager told McClatchy News.

Authorities were alerted after someone on the property heard a man shouting for help from inside the chimney, Bianca Johnson, spokeswoman for the Savannah Police Department told McClatchy News.

Detectives found that the man climbed onto the roof of the motel and tried to get inside by going through the chimney, she said. He went in feet first, so he was upright when rescuers intervened. It’s unclear exactly how long he was inside the chimney, but he was not injured, she said.

No charges have been filed, according to Johnson.
