Flying tire from passing SUV kills 67-year-old pedestrian, Georgia police say

A pedestrian died after being struck by a tire that flew off a SUV, Georgia police say.

Edith Fields, 67, was walking on Sunday, July 17 in Savannah, Georgia when a tire popped off the front of a Toyota Highlander and struck her, according to a release from the Savannah Police Department. Fields was transported to Memorial Medical Center where she later died from her injuries.

The SUV was traveling east on Staley Avenue from Montgomery Street, the release says. The Toyota’s driver has not been released.

Savannah police are investigating the incident.
