A solider is dead after an overnight incident involving two UH-60 helicopters at a U.S. Army airfield in southeast Georgia early Wednesday, March 30, officials say.

The soldier, who officials haven’t named, was assigned to the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division at Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield, according to a statement posted on the military base’s Facebook page.

Officials said the incident occurred around 2 a.m. at Wright Army Airfield. No other injuries were reported.

The cause of the incident is still under investigation, according to Army officials. The airfield is closed until further notice.

Fort Stewart is about 40 miles southwest of Savannah.
