UGA plans victory parade in wake of football national championship. What to know

The University of Georgia Bulldogs are back in Athens after a historic win over the University of Alabama Crimson Tide to capture the College Football Playoff national championship.

Fans looking to celebrate the team’s title can cheer the Bulldogs on at a victory parade planned for Saturday, Jan. 15, at Sanford Stadium, the Athens Banner-Herald reported, citing UGA Athletics.

The parade will start down Lumpkin Street at 12:30 p.m. and proceed to the stadium, according to the newspaper. A Dog Walk is also scheduled for 1 p.m.

A formal event at the stadium will follow at 2 p.m., WXIA reported. Gates open at noon.

Georgia beat Alabama 33-18 on Monday night in Indianapolis. It’s the first time the Bulldogs won a national championship since the 1980 season.

How to get tickets

All tickets to the event are complimentary and will be disbursed to season ticket holders and UGA students online starting Tuesday, Jan. 11, according to WAGA.

Remaining tickets will be available to the general public on Thursday, Jan. 13, and Friday, Jan. 14, athletics officials said.

Additional information will be released on GeorgiaDogs.com.

The UGA campus is scheduled to open to celebration attendees at 7 a.m. Saturday, according to WSB.
