Georgia school district closing for a day after employee tests positive for coronavirus
A Georgia school district will close Tuesday after an employee tested positive for coronavirus.
Fulton County Schools said Monday on Facebook that all schools and offices in the district will be closed on Tuesday as health officials confirmed an employee within the district is infected with COVID-19.
The closure will allow impacted schools to be cleaned and sanitized and will give district officials a chance to share details about their plan, the Facebook post says.
Additional closures are possible, according to the Facebook post, and the district will post updates on its website and via email.
The district has also implemented parts of its “pandemic plan” in response to the case.
Affected schools, families and employees will be notified, additional closures will be announced, testing will be “performed in coordination” with health officials and other safety precautions are being taken, the district says.
There are around 100 schools in the system, which is in the Atlanta area.
The employee is at a local hospital being treated for the virus, the district says. Officials have not said who the person is or what his or her role in the district is.
There are six confirmed cases of COVID-19 and six presumptive positive cases of the virus in Georgia as of Monday, according to the state Department of Public Health.
