‘The party should be lit, not you.’ Georgia begins posting sobering highway signs.
New highway signs are hitting Georgia roads, and they’re pretty creative.
Some of the latest signs are stark reminders of risks behind the wheel, while others are downright hilarious, a list posted Thursday to the Georgia Department of Transportation website shows.
Here are some of the best messages.
For anyone who’s been distracted in the driver’s seat, there’s: “No one wants to see traffic on Snapchat, Brenda.”
Others offer frank words to those who drink and drive.
“Driving half lit is not very bright,” one message says.
And we all have seen drivers who can relate to this one: “If you miss your exit (it’s) okay, we made more up ahead.”
Concerned about keeping your New Year’s resolution?
“Wearing a seatbelt makes you look thinner,” according to one message.
But some of the signs take a more sobering approach to safety on the road.
“If you don’t wear a seatbelt, please be an organ donor,” one reads.
Another says: “Better late than never.”
If you want to see one of the creative messages on display, you may be in luck.
Georgia officials said they planned to start changing digital sign boards Jan. 16. Drivers can find new messages “on major highways throughout the state,” according to the Department of Transportation.
The latest messages were winners of an annual competition that judged entries highlighting safety on the road, Georgia authorities say. Last year, the state reported 1,449 deaths on its roads.
