14-year-old chased down and killed by adults he tried to rob, Georgia police say

A 14-year-old boy was shot and killed after he tried to rob adults, Georgia police say.

High school freshman Ricarrio Hale and his 16-year-old friend agreed to meet with a group that was selling an item online, WSB-TV reports.

During the in-person exchange on Jan. 12, the teens started to leave without paying, the DeKalb County Police Department told WXIA and other news outlets. That’s when police say the adults chased down the alleged robbers and started shooting, the TV station reports.

Hale was shot in the chest and died, according to WSB-TV.

The other teenager was struck in an arm and is in “stable condition,” WAGA reports.

Police say it happened at a townhouse community in Lithonia, a city roughly 20 miles east of Atlanta.

Two suspected shooters, who were not identified, were taken into custody in connection with the case, according to WAGA.

After the reported encounter, local police are telling people to use caution.

“We urge those that use online or mobile apps to buy/sell items and meet the buyer/seller to exchange, to please consider meeting where it is safe, such as any DeKalb County Police precinct,” the department wrote on Twitter.
