Lauren Giddings Murder

Evidence in Giddings case sent to FBI

Evidence from the disappearance and presumed murder of 27-year-old Lauren Giddings will be flown to the FBI crime lab in Virginia, Macon police Maj. Charles Stone said.

Investigators are reviewing evidence. The FBI should receive items Tuesday, according to a Sunday night news release from police spokeswoman Jami Gaudet.

Giddings, a recent Mercer University law school graduate, was reported missing Thursday. Police found a dismembered body outside her Barristers Hall apartment at 1058 Georgia Ave. They believe it to be Giddings but are awaiting test results.

Police have repeatedly searched her apartment and the one below it and are still focusing on the complex, Gaudet said.

Police Chief Mike Burns asked anyone with information to call police at 751-7500 or CrimeStoppers at 877-68CRIME.

“We intend to find the person who perpetrated this crime and will release additional information when it is appropriate to do so without compromising this ongoing investigation,” Burns said in the news release.

“We know that the public is concerned about safety in light of this crime. Let me reassure the public that our entire department is on alert looking for anything and/or anyone who can shed light on this homicide.”
