Incumbent Centerville councilman Nichols turned out of office by voters

CENTERVILLE -- Edward Armijo ousted incumbent Councilman Jon Nichols to take the Post 4 City Council seat Tuesday.

Armijo won in a 282 to 137 vote, said Krista Bedingfield, Centerville's election superintendent.

Armijo, a 58-year-old who works at Robins Air Force Base, said he is going to go into office "with my sleeves rolled up."

"A lot of citizens in Centerville need to have their voice heard," Armijo said. "I'm going to be that voice. I don't think all (the members of) council feel that way, but my concern is to be a representative of the people."

Armijo, a newcomer to Centerville politics, said one of his primary goals will be to bring back the city's provision for a board of ethics. That board would be made up of "regular citizens" versus a city employee who decides cases.

He also wants to restore confidence that Centerville's leaders have the community's best interests at heart.
