Adams wins Byron council seat
BYRON -- Rusty Adams has won Byron's Post 2 City Council seat.
Adams, 52, defeated opponent Rick Knowles by a vote of 163 to 91, according to Byron election official Betty Sims.
Post 2 incumbent Farrell Bass did not seek re-election.
"I'm ready to go to work, ready to do the best I can for Byron," Adams said.
The first thing on his to-do list, he said, is to work toward annexing property into the city.
"People on city water need to be annexed into the city," he said. "We also need to immediately do something about stormwater getting into service drains."
Adams said he also will be looking for ways to pay for a new fire department facility.
"I'd also like to say thank you to those who supported me, and to Rick (Knowles) who ran a good clean race," he said.
During the campaign, Adams also said he would seek new ideas to bring industry and jobs to the community. He said the greatest challenge is to lower tax rates while providing quality services such as police and fire protection.
Adams has been a firefighter for 32 years. He works for the fire department at Robins Air Force Base.
