State releases official election results. Here are final vote counts for Bibb County
The Georgia Secretary of State’s office released the official results from an election held more than a week ago.
The Bibb County results were initially delayed due to quarantined absentee ballots, but were further delayed because of issues with combining two databases to create the final vote count.
Lester Miller and Cliffard Whitby will face each other in a runoff for Macon-Bibb County mayor Aug. 11 because neither candidate received more than 50% of the vote. The Bibb County Commissioner District 5 and District 7 races will feature runoffs as well.
Anita Reynolds Howard defeated incumbent David Cooke to become the next Macon Judicial Circuit district attorney. Howard received 21,440 votes to Cooke’s 9,185. Although the district attorney race was a primary, Howard does not have an opponent on the Republican ballot for the November election.
Voters can apply for an absentee ballot for the runoff election on Aug. 11. The deadline to apply for an absentee ballot is Aug. 7, which will also be the last day of early voting. Early voting begins July 20.
If people did not register to vote before the deadline for the general election, they will not be allowed to register for the runoff because the deadline for registration was May 11. However, voter registration is open for the November election until Oct. 5. To register to vote, visit www.mvp.sos.ga.gov.
