Perry to get brighter street lights
PERRY -- The city's streets should get a little brighter at night in the coming weeks.
Georgia Power will soon start changing 1,062 street lights, said Jody Blasche, distribution operator for the utility.
He told the City Council on Tuesday that the change won't cost the city any money, but it will make the streets brighter at night.
The lights are currently high-pressure sodium lights that have an orange tint, Blasche said. The new bulbs will be light-emitting diodes, or LEDs.
"It will be a more clear, white light," Blasche said. "It's really going to light up your streets and sidewalks. It's going to look a lot nicer and be a lot safer."
The benefit to Georgia Power is that the lights will be more efficient and require less maintenance, he said. A crew will start changing the lights Monday at a rate of about 25 a day. The process will take about two months.
