Interim Bibb County Tax Commissioner Wade McCord formally announced Wednesday morning his intention to seek a full term in office.

McCord declared his candidacy before more than 30 supporters at the Taste and See Coffee Shop and Gallery in downtown Macon. McCord's announcement comes two days after he informed attendees at the Bibb County Democratic Party meeting about his intention to run for tax commissioner.

At that same Democratic Party meeting, former Macon Mayor C. Jack Ellis told about 40 attendees that he would be a candidate for tax commissioner on the May 24 ballot, said John Swint, the party's chairman.

McCord on Wednesday spoke about his 20 years working in the Tax Commissioner's Office, including five months as interim commissioner. He cited a 30 percent reduction of wait time as one of his accomplishments.

"The office is probably the most efficient and well-oiled machine in Bibb County, in my opinion," McCord said.

On Aug. 31, 2015, McCord, then a chief deputy tax commissioner, was appointed interim tax commissioner after the retirement of Tommy Tedders.

Ellis, who served as Macon's mayor from 1999-2007, would not confirm to The Telegraph on Tuesday any plans to run for the post.

Qualifying for county offices, including tax commissioner, will take place during the week of March 7-11.
