Georgia finds new vendor to mail vehicle registration notices
After months of delays, the latest vehicle tag renewal notices in Georgia should start being mailed out this week.
The state Department of Revenue's Motor Vehicles Division has contracted with a new vendor to print out the notices that are mailed out as reminders to update registration. Since September, many vehicle owners in Georgia had not been receiving notices after World Marketing, the company that printed them, shut down.
Bibb County Tax Commissioner Wade McCord said he was notified by state officials that people with January birthdays could have their notices mailed out this week.
Those notices are now being printed by Wells Fargo, said Peach County Tax Commissioner W.L. Brown.
"In the next week or so the February notices will go out," Brown said. "They're getting back on track to where it was before the fiasco with World Marketing."
There will not be any "blue" return envelopes with the January notices, "but we are working with the state to correct that in the future," McCord said in an email.
In Brown's office, the number of phone calls increased in recent months seeking details about renewals.
"It has been OK. We've had to give renewal amounts on the phone very frequently, but other than that it's not been a major problem," he said.
