Macon-Bibb County Commission to recognize Vietnam veterans
The Macon-Bibb County Commission will recognize, honor and thank Vietnam War veterans living in Middle Georgia for their service to their community and country.
The ceremony also will commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam War. It will take place Tuesday at 4 p.m. in the commission chambers at the Macon-Bibb County Government Center, 700 Poplar St.
"We are indebted to the brave men and women who serve our country and community, whether we are at war or at peace," Commissioner Elaine Lucas said in the release.
Vietnam veterans will be personally recognized during the ceremony and provided a commemorative certificate. They are asked to call the mayor's office at 751-7170 to provide their name and service information so the certificates can be printed for the ceremony.
"It's been 50 years since the end of the Vietnam War, and those that served deserve to be recognized for continuing to give back locally and across Georgia and the United States," said Mayor Robert Reichert, who joined the U.S. Army in 1969 and served in the Vietnam War with the 1st Air Calvary Division as a helicopter pilot from 1970 to 1971.
